Fresh peaches, strawberries, rosemary and mint make this the perfect summer punch!
My sister’s birthday was last weekend, and we had this great summer day planned to hang out in Wash Park and bring a picnic, park games and she wanted me to make up a punch. Well, then it rained. So plans changed.
Regardless we had a great night, and I was already so excited about making this punch I made it anyway and I’m glad I did! The fresh herbs and fruits give great summer flavors and the moscato makes it sweet. If you want it less on the sweet side you could use a dry white or just use less of the simple syrup.
I decided to make the agave simple syrup because lately whenever I attempt to make one out of sugar and water I fail miserably. (I’m still on the hunt for the trick to that). But this is such a simple way to make a flavored simple syrup and avoid a grainy texture!
This is a great make ahead punch, I made the simple syrup and let it sit in the fridge with the Moscato (the one I bought was not carbonated) and then add the soda water when you’re ready to serve!
The Innards:
Peach, Strawberry and Herb Simple Syrup -
- 1 Peach, sliced
- 1 cup Strawberries, halved
- 1/4 cup Agave Syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 Rosemary Sprigs
- 2 Mint Sprigs
The Sangria -
- 3 Bottles Moscato Wine
- 3 Liters Soda Water (lemon flavored optional, but unsweetened)
- 1-2 Fresh Peaches, sliced
- 1 cup Fresh Strawberries, sliced
- More fresh Mint than Rosemary twigs
Serves: A lot! It’s so very easy to cut this recipe down if you aren’t making it for a large group. I liked the ratio of one soda water per bottle of wine but you can adjust that as your taste prefers.
How to Make the Syrup:
1. Cut your peaches and strawberries up.
2. Place your fruit, herbs, agave and water in a pot on medium heat.
3. Bring to a boil and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
4. Take off the heat and cool completely before straining out the fruit and herbs
5. It’s best to combine your wine and simple syrup in a large pitcher and place in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.
Then add in your soda water when you are ready to serve and enjoy!
Bon Appétit!
