A refreshing white wine sangria infused with herbal and fruity flavors.
Sangria is great for many reasons, it’s very cost effective to make for a large group, especially since the quality of wine is less important than if you are drinking the wine straight. And you can really make it any flavor you want! White is my sangria of choice in the summer because it is so light and refreshing!
This weekend it was my birthday! I’m getting old My friend Jordan (who’s birthday was also this weekend) decided to have a few people at my house for a little soirée.
I asked him what his favorite herb was and he replied basil. So I decided that strawberries and some orange and lemon would make the perfect end of summer sangria! We had a lovely little bbq and tried to keep cool in the sweltering heat with this refreshing drink!
Note: The recipe for simple syrup I am positing makes what does not look like a huge amount, but it really is, a little goes a long way. So add the simple syrup at your discretion as to how sweet you want it and know that it definitely is enough for multiple batches.
The Simple Syrup Innards:
- 1/2 cup Honey
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1/2 Lemon, sliced
- 1/2 Orange, sliced
- 1 cup Strawberries, halved
- 5 large Basil leaves
Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Lemon Lime Soda
- White Wine
How to Make It:
1. Chop all of your fruit, you can leave the basil leaves whole.
2. In a medium size saucepan heat the honey, water, all of your fruit and basil until boiling and let simmer for 5 minutes.
3. Set aside and let cool completely before straining out the fruit.
4. Place the simple syrup in the fridge in an airtight container for a couple hours before using if possible.
*best to make the simple syrup ahead of time*
5. For every 3 bottles of wine add a liter of lemon lime soda (yeah, it’s a large batch ) and then add in your simple syrup to taste, I’d say up to half the batch at most unless you want it really sweet.
6. Add in some extra fresh slices of the fruit and basil for presentation!
